These non-works aim to explore the perception in-between sound and music. Inspired by the American visual and conceptual artist, Robert Barry, the escape from the physical limits of the art object to express the unknown or unperceived, becomes the goal of art. I began to question the space around sound objects, rather than the objects themselves, creating the paradox of the non-sound object. Using recordings of Rameau’s
Nouvelles suites de pièces de clavecin (1726/27) as source material, I explored what might be the non-perceived elements of these musical objects. In three short movements, these non-works are to be performed in-between musical works.
